people however do not want or need a pedigreed cat.
There are a number of places in Anchorage can someone
get a cat or kitten:

Please check Animal Control first. If the cats are not
adopted out within a set period of time they are put
down. Friends of Pets, listed below, keeps a phone message
line with cats that are currently available at Animal
Control.
Adopt-A-Cat
Shelter (Alaska Humane Society), 344-8808
This rescue shelter, run on volunteer funds, houses
over 100 cats. There is always a wide selection of cats
to choose from. You can find them on 76th between the
Old & New Seward Highway.

This organization was formed in 1989 to advocate on
behalf of animals in Animal Control. They are a non-profit
organization providing services including an adoption
hotline at 561-3677, a pet request file for people looking
for a specific type of pet, spay/neuter assistance,
the pet patrol picture of an adoptable pet in the paper
each week and educational programs in the schools.
Happy Paws, Muldoon Road, next to Alaska Greenhouses
does rescue work for cats. Their grooming and boarding
business helps to support the rescued cats.
Pedigreed
Cats People
looking for a specific physical characteristics, personalities
or health guarantees in a cat may want to consider a
getting a pedigreed cat. Members of Alaskats Cat Club
also provide assistance to people looking for a pedigreed
cat or kitten. Responsible pedigreed cat breeders rarely
work through pet stores to sell their animals. We know
many of the breeders in Alaska and the pacific northwest
and can provide information to help make a responsible,
informed decision about purchasing a cat and looking
for responsible breeders.
